Do you have regrets about your past? Do you wish things could have been different, better, more inspired and wisely acted out?
I imagine we all have our lists of “I wish things had been different.” But what is done is done. Today is today. Yesterday is yesterday. The next step is to find a spiritual peace about where we go from here.
A good friend on mine blogged a post titled, “The surprise Christmas Gift,” that eloquently tells of his release from deep regrets per his past. It’s a precious piece.

New beginnings
The greeting “Happy New Year,” has been flowing freely and abundantly this past week as people anticipate a new set of months to twirl through on their calendar. When the past has been a struggle, as it has been for millions, it’s heartening to embrace the possibility of a fresh start and a new beginning in which difficult challenges are left behind and happier healthier times are foreseen.
This morning, as I lay in bed a few moments preparing to rise and begin an active day, I thought, “It’s more than a new set of months that brings freshness and renewal. It’s new thinking that brings progress into one’s life."
"Happy New Thinking!” I exclaimed. And up I bounced for the day.
Happy New Thinking! I like that.
God's is the source of all renewal and restoration. The blessings of divine Mind don’t enter our experience through the door of time, but through spiritual mindedness, consecrated prayer, receptivity to truth and a love of goodness. It’s new thinking that leads to new views and fresh possibilities.
Do you want a new body, a better attitude, a healthier portfolio? It all starts with gaining a better understanding of what you have already in spiritual fact. And that better understanding comes from devoted prayer, commitment to spiritual growth and daily deeds that confirm the new views gained. And that all comes down to new thinking!
As we begin the annum 2009, I extend a Happy New Year greeting to you...

The bigger picture
When you read the headlines in the US these days, you would think the most important events going on in the world are the Iraq war and the upcoming presidential primaries. These are certainly significant activities, and need to be honored and valued, especially a quick and appropriate resolution of the war. But it occurred to me recently that there is a bigger development going on in the world that we often lose sight of. And it’s a spiritualization of thought that leads people to see, eventually, that life is ever new and safe in God.
In thinking back on my early years, I was raised on a family farm where there always seemed to be some calamity or difficulty that needed to be mastered. Either a frost hit the apples, or hallow heart (a brown cavity in the middle of the spud) struck the potato crop, or interest rates were sky high, or yields were down, or the price of crops plunged. There was frequently some pressing need of the moment that seemed to eclipse everything else in life if we let it. Focus on those troubles often kept attention mesmerized in a state of despair and possibly forgetting the bigger perspective, that no matter what happened on the farm, life would go on.
And it did. Life always went on. We survived every year, every calamity, every catastrophe, and every disaster. A new year always showed up, a fresh start always presented itself, and the opportunity to prosper and succeed never left. Through often incredible patience, perseverance and persistent faith, we flourished over the long run.
When watching the news, I like to remind myself that there is more going on in the world than the news anchors report. There is always an undercurrent of Truth at work sustaining us regardless of what happens materially. Wars, political debates, and weather present challenges that we must face and resolve, but we must never lose the spiritual perspective and believe that any of these troubles are the sum total of existence. There is always a bigger picture to appreciate and remember than the material senses present.
There is a God that helps us. There is a Life that never ends. And there is a Mind that protects and saves us eternally. We are spiritual beings living a spiritual life that we never lose, no matter what mortality throws at us. There is a spiritual reality that prevails, survives and thrives forever.
I learn from this to mentally stay in divine reality so dismay over things gone awry in the temporal does not overtake my thinking and cast me into a pit of despair. Truth is always the victor, and it’s only a question of time and spiritual growth that this is proven to be true.
As was true back on the farm, there was always a fresh New Year right around the corner. Trials were left behind, and new opportunities were embraced that demonstrated the infinite renewal of Spirit.
Politicians will debate for eons to come, conflict will demand resolution, and chaos will cry out for order and peace, but through it all, Truth will prevail. Life in Spirit will continue to thrive and survive, and present endless opportunities for humanity to progress and continue growing closer to that final day when all faith in evil is left behind and the omnipresence of good and divine Love is fully accepted and experienced. Heaven!

Life springs eternal
Jeff Johnstone emailed me the below picture he took outside of Glacier National Park.
I find a deep spiritual message in the scene it shares, in that right where all looks devastated and lost new life is springing from the ashes of temporal destruction. Look closely, and you'll see little plants and flowers emerging from the dust. (Click on the picture and it should enlarge.)
“Life is eternal.” Mary Baker Eddy wrote. “We should find this out and begin the demonstration thereof.”
I imagine most everyone has trials and challenges they face at times where survival appears uncertain. It could be a lost job, a huge debt, an unfaithful partner, or a health crisis. Whatever the adversity, its heartening to remember that our life sustenance is ultimately rooted in Spirit, and we need never fear lack or loss of the temporal. Where the world fails us, God is there to continue supporting us.
The conditions and circumstances of the earth come and go, but Spirit is forever. Where all hope appears lost in the material, the divine Source can spring forth life anew.
Thanks Jeff for sharing.

A new day coming
I love this poem sent to me yesterday.
There’s A New Day Coming!
When the sun announces the dawning day
Just flex your muscles and start on your way.
Go over, or under, around, or through
Any obstacles or hurdles that challenge you.
There’s a new day coming.
Cast aside the failures of yesterday.
Forget the peaks and valleys that have paved your way.
Wipe the sweat from your brow and the dust from your shoe.
Take a breath and relax so that you may begin anew.
There’s a new day coming.
Forget the burdens and obstacles that have held you back.
Focus on your dreams and prepare a plan of attack.
There are battles awaiting to challenge your success.
Daring you to stand tall and to give it your best.
There’s a new day coming.
No matter how great the journey, or how heavy the load
How steep the mountain, or how rough the road.
When your arms grow weary and legs give way
Stop and rest for a moment, it will be okay.
There’s a new day coming.
As shadows spring forth from the setting sun.
Take a moment and savor the battles you’ve won.
Sleep peacefully tonight and enjoy your rest.
Awaken tomorrow and continue your quest.
There’s always, a new day coming.
