Humor for animal lovers

Everyone once in a while, we all need to clean the outside of our computer screens. However, did you know that you're supposed to clean the inside of the screen, too?

Not many people know this or how to do it. So, here's a complimentary cleaning. Click here.

Answered prayer

Last Wednesday night, an animal lover in the church I attend, shared a story that puts a chuckle in your belly and a smile on your face.

Years ago, she lived in Anchorage, Alaska. One morning, on her way to work, she was driving up the Seward highway, and in the median was a moose. She zipped by, as did hundreds of other cars, but felt instant compassion for the plight of the moose stranded between two busy lanes of traffic.

Her heart went out in compassion, and she prayed for the safety of the four-legged creature. She affirmed that it expressed an all-wise Mind that would act only in the best interests of safety, that it could intelligently discern a wise course of action, exercise patience, and be escorted safely out of the median into the hills beyond.

After a few minutes of prayer, she felt comfortable with the truth of being, but still really wanted to know if the moose was safe.

She prayed to God, “Please give me a sign that assures me the moose is safe.” All of a sudden, the radio announcer came on with “breaking news,” and announced that “I’m happy to tell you that the moose stranded in the median on the Seward highway has made its way safely up into the hills!”

“Thank you God,” my friend uttered. And that was the end of her moose story.

Trust God more

For all you experienced horse women and men, you’re going to laugh when I make this confession.

Yesterday was the first time I’d ever ridden a horse for any length of time. As our guide took us into the woods, and eventually on a side hill where the path sloped steeply down to Lake Louise on the left, I started to worry about the footing of my horse.

Many times, Moslin, my ride, walked on the very edge of the path which was very muddy and slick and seemed like a dangerous place to be.

My imagination went momentarily a bit wild. With one little slip, kapooey, I could see the two of us tumbling off the brink, head over heels down into the cold lake.

Now logic and reason said horses were experienced and knew about these things. I had nothing to worry about. And that fact did bring comfort. But when I looked down to the ground to see where Moslin was putting his feet, I couldn’t see a thing. His tummy was too wide and got in the way of my line of sight. Plus, horses have eyes in their head, which happen to be at the front of their body—way up front. How they could see where they placed their hind feet was becoming a significant worry for me.

I tried looking around Moslin’s bulging middle a couple of times, but it was useless. There was no way I could check on Moslin’s feet to see if he knew what he was doing. I was totally at his mercy! Hmmmm….

I decided I had to trust more.

I didn’t have to see his feet. I didn’t have to know all the what’s, whys and wherefores of how horses plodded on a tricky trail. God is All. God expresses intelligence. Therefore, everything in God’s kingdom, including His horses, expresses intelligence--including Moslin. I reasoned. This truth brought me great comfort.

Every footprint, every footstep, was guided by the all-seeing divine Mind that manifested itself through all of God’s creation. I felt reassured.

In my prayers, I saw that I needed to drop the belief that my horse could err, misstep or be ignorant of how to trek safely without slipping over the edge. Fear of accident was a false view of God’s creation, and I didn’t want to be fallible to it.

I quickly gained a greater appreciation for the seamless relationship that exists between God, horse and man. I didn’t have to know everything. God knew, and my horse reflected what God was doing for the benefit of both of us.

The all-knowing Mind planted Moslin’s every hoof firmly in a safe place on that trail, and I didn’t have a single thing to be worried about. I enjoyed the ride very much.

And I'm happy to report that we did not slip off the edge of the trail and go wildly tumbling into the lake.

Looking back, I doubt Moslin was worried one little bit.

I've heard that animals often appear to be very close to God... We can probably all learn from them.

True mother-love

For all you animal lovers, here's a clip that will touch your heart and cheer your spirit.

It certainly illustrates the universal nature of a true mother-love. It's a relationship lesson we all might learn from to bless our acceptance of those who differ from us on the outside but share the same spiritual common worth on the inside.

Funny cat story

I heard a humorous testimony in church tonight you might get a kick out of reading.

A woman was relating how the family cat always plunked down wherever they happened to be. For example, if one was reading the paper, the cat would want to perch on the paper. Or if one wanted to work on the computer, the cat would sit on the mouse, and so on...

Well, one night her husband couldn’t find an important document in the house. They both looked and looked to no avail.

She prayed a bit for guidance, and while quietly listening for spiritual direction noticed that the cat was on the other side of the room coiled up on a table. It was a bit unusual for the cat to be separated from her or her hubby, and she became aware of the oddity.

A little voice within said, “Instead of the cat being where you are, maybe you’re supposed to be where the cat is!”

She obeyed.

She walked over to the cat, and ta-da, there was the document her husband had been looking for nestled underneath her warm fuzzy body.

As usual, kitty was where everyone else wanted to be all along.

Keep our head above it all

The below picture was sent to me with the caption, “Winter is almost over in Michigan and we can see the deer wandering around now.”

I laughed and laughed…

The deer making their way through the deep snow with barely enough height to keep their head above the drifts reminded me of times in life when I felt “snowed in” by fear, worry or doubt and not sure how to proceed. But I always made it through those times and moved on to something better. Spring inevitably follows winter.

This picture inspires hope. I imagine those deer are going to survive the wintry weather just fine. They look expectant and grateful, and perhaps even enjoy their romp through the soft stuff. They make the best of what they have to deal with and trust their needs to be met. In a few months time, they'll be happily chomping on lush green buds and grass all around.

All in God's order

Holly from out East in the US sent in the below picture and story to go with it. I thought you might enjoy her inspiration.

“This morning there were about 30 Goldfinches on the 5 feeders that I have hanging outside on our deck. At one point, my dog barked, and all 30 of those finches flew away, going 30 different directions within a very small area of space in an instant ... without any sense of congestion, or bump or fender bender or accident. It was immediate and perfectly harmonized disbursement.

I have often been amazed how they can fly through the woods, or through the narrow railings of our deck so quickly without mishap of any kind.

Reminds me of a verse from Hymn 263 in the Christian Science Hymnal:

"As the stars in order going,
All harmonious, He doth move;
Heavenly calm and comfort showing,
Comes the healing word of Love."

Near Holly's deck
With amazement, I’ve often watched thousands of birds in swarms fly in harmony with each other. It is certainly proof of an intelligent Principle at work in this universe, permeating all being and enabling such intricate order and harmony to be possible.

Won't it be nice when all mankind learns to "fly in order with each other," like the birds have learned to do, without collision, accident or injury!

Thanks Holly!

Take time out to pray

This was too cute to let slip by!

I love the picture, especially the stillness and stance of trust and peace.

Sent in by a reader…

Written by an environmentalist committed to showing man's impact on the land.

"I watched prairie dogs every day, rise before the sun, stand with their paws pressed together facing the rising sun in total stillness for up to 30 minutes," says Williams. "And then I watched them at the end of the day take that same gesture 30 minutes before the sun goes down; they would press their palms together in perfect stillness. I don't mean to anthropomorphize, but when you look at a creature that has survived over the millennium begin and end each day in that kind of stance, it causes one to think about one's own life and speed and the rapidity in which we live."

Identity theft?

A reader sent in the below photos. I couldn't help but chuckle when I glanced through them for you get surprised when you look closely. They are not what they first appear.
Beware of identity theft!! The header blared.
I thought about meeting new people and occasionally drawing the wrong conclusion about them from initial impressions. The surface evaluation may be totally wrong.
It's important not to jump to conclusions!
Look a little closer and we see qualities and charactertistics that weren't initially apparent.
Enjoy...

Our dog Rhodie

When our family returned from Indian Wells late at night a week ago Monday, we couldn’t find our dog, Rhodie. We decided she was with our neighbor caretaker, and went to bed unworried.

The next morning, however, my wife found her in a remote part of our yard lying listlessly on the ground. She was breathing, but wouldn’t respond to any stimulation.

Rhodie is a golden lab, and has been with us around 15 years now. She is dearly loved and has added great joy to the family activity over the years. Suggestions that she may be nearing the end of her time on earth have surfaced in recent weeks as she has slowed down her momentum, so the first thought was, “This may be the time.”

I carried her up to the house and put her on her soft bed on the patio. She was limp, oblivious to my actions, and heavy to carry, but I succeeded in plunking her down in her favorite position. Motionless, she was not even slightly interested in eating or drinking.

Shortly, after walking away, I challenged the aggressive suggestion that she was dying. Yes, she had lived a long time, and yes, if she went, it would be okay. The family was prepared for that transition. I consented. But my Christian Science view of Life rebelled against accepting death under any circumstance.

Life is eternal! I protested. Rhodie is an eternal idea of God that was never born into matter, and will never leave matter, I affirmed.

I decided to improve my understanding of what Rhodie was as an idea of God, instead of buying into the picture of living and dying in matter.

And Christian Science teaches this truth. Christian Science, as Jesus taught also, explains that the physical body, as a shell of mortal mind, is never the sum and substance of anyone, including animals. We, in our true identity, are spiritual beings at-one with our Maker in Spirit.

God’s ideas lived before so-called material existence, and they live forever after it. Life is eternal in Spirit. It is never IN matter.

I caught a clearer glimpse of Rhodie as God’s idea in Mind, and not in matter, than ever before. It brought me great peace.

As a spiritual idea, she was not ill, she was not weak, she was not mortal, she was not dying, and never would die, I agreed. She was living her eternal spiritual life in Mind right now. And that truth would never change.

In a few hours, to the delight of all, Rhodie started to respond to taking in some water, and soon, food. She got up and moved a bit, very clumsily, then more, and soon started roaming the yard as was her customary practice in weeks past. It was a resurrection for the family to witness. Awesome!

Hmmm...I just realized that this all occurred at the beginning of Easter week. How cool...

Rhodie has been her usual self ever since. And everyone is happy about it.

“Never accept death as real and happening, even when it appears a natural thing to occur,” I gained from this experience.

Death is not natural, ever. Death doesn’t happen, ever. Life is the real, and it’s eternal.

When animals and people pass on, they do not die in the process. They continue living in Spirit, which is where they had always lived. This truth, understood, heals. It dispels, to increasing degree, the illusion of death and dying here on earth until we get to the full realization of Life in Spirit, where the suggestion of death doesn’t even occur in the first place. Oh what a glorious day that will be…

A remarkable healing

I received the below account from a reader, and asked permission to share it with you.

A must read…

Here’s a sweet testimony I heard at Wednesday night testimony meeting.

Three young children had a kitten. Their garage door was defective and one day crashed down on the kitten. The evidence said, "This cat is dead." The mother called a practitioner, and he asked the children to declare, "God is the only Life," every time they thought about the kitten. They placed the kitty in a shoe box with a warm blanket. Every time any one of them thought about the kitty, they obediently insisted, "God is the only Life!"

When their father, who is not a Christian Scientist, came home, he declared, "This cat is dead." When they would not agree, he took her to the vet, and he declared, "This cat is dead."

On the way home, the father heard the cat sneeze and took her back to the vet who said it was a phenomenon that sometimes happened, but nevertheless, "This cat is dead." The cat sneezed again several times in a row, but when the father checked her, the evidence said, "This cat is dead."

When he got home, the children insisted on keeping the cat in the box in the garage no matter what anybody said. They were still declaring, "God is the only Life."

The morning of the third day, as they were having breakfast, they heard some loud mewing coming from the garage. When they opened the door, the cat came bounding into the kitchen perfectly well and strong.

The testifier said that she and her brothers had so lost sight of the furry evidence and were so filled with the truth they had been declaring that they SAW THE TRUTH THEY WERE CONSCIOUS OF. The cat did not have to get better. Their declarations for LIFE demonstrated LIFE never born, never dying, never hurt, never recuperating.

I reminded myself after hearing this story that God is our very own Mind. We can be conscious of Truth alone if God is our Mind, therefore we MUST SEE this Truth evidenced in our lives.

No lost little ones

Monica from Atlanta sent in the below experience her family had on the 4th of July. It reminds me to never give up when searching for solutions, because God always has an answer—even very unique ones at times!

We were preparing to go see fireworks.

My daughter had foolishly put her three guinea pigs out into the front yard to graze without the enclosure. We found her frantically searching for Peanut, the baby piggy. The entire family spent a good hour scouring the yard and listening to her squeak, but to no avail. I knew she needed to be found to survive, but it seemed impossible to find her!

We had looked everywhere.

I saw myself in Peanut's helpless situation and wondered how God could possibly bring about a solution, even as I clung to the thought of God's perfect creation, never out of his care. I knew my husband, son and daughters were all praying for a miracle.

Then an odd thought came to me to ask Strider, our German shepherd, for help. He had always been so tender with the piggies, guarding them and even barring his teeth at our other dogs when they got too near and rambunctious around them.

So I got out Peanut's hutch and called Strider. He took in the scent deeply, and I said "Find Peanut!"

Strider's nose went to the ground. In a few minutes I saw him pawing and sniffing in the low prickly brush where we had previously searched but found nothing. We all gathered to look, and hidden deep inside the prickles and dirt and dead leaves was Peanut! We never would have found her without Strider's help. How grateful we were, and amazed even more!

Strider acted like it was no big deal and looked puzzled at what all the fuss was about. It sure gave me hope, that there is a human solution in God's design, even when it seems impossible to mortal view.

The lost restored

Click here for an awe-inspiring story about a lost dog that gets found 1300 miles from home.

I knew a woman many years ago who lost a favorite cat in the rural community she lived in. Figuring the coyotes got the feline; she never expected to see the pet again.

Five years later, she struggled with feelings of personal loss in her life, health issues in particular. One night she prayed to see to see the unreality of loss, that no good thing could ever be taken from her because all true good is spiritual, eternally tucked away in Mind.

The next morning she opened the front door of her home to go outside and sitting on the porch is her cat.

The miracle introduces no disorder, but unfolds the primal order, establishing the Science of God's unchangeable law. Mary Baker Eddy

Under the government of God’s unchangeable law, what appears to be lost is found again.
