Feeling close to God
At first, she blamed God for the feeling of separation, but then realized she was pointing the finger of blame in the wrong direction.
She repeated the familiar adage she had picked up somewhere...
"If you're ever feeling separated from God, it's never a question of who moved."
So true. God never leaves us. Humans leave God by seeking help, support, and consolation in places that are not spiritual--in matter or in mortals.
God is Spirit, and it's in Spirit that we feel God's closeness.
God never moves. Divine Love is always the same.
Like coming home and finding peace, we need to "stay home" with God, and we'll never feel separated from the divine care and provision.

How close is God?
I replied, “God is the authority, dominion, power and wisdom you express in dealing with the family troubles.”
She was stunned with awe at my comment, she later told me. She had never thought of God in such intimate terms as being dominion and authority expressed through her. She had been harboring a distant sense of God as being a far off power waiting to be summoned to the scene that may or may not respond.
This is a common error, I find, in my interaction with people seeking God’s help. They hold a material sense of God as being, perhaps a person, like Jesus, that occupies a physical space and is remote to their immediate experience. Or they might follow a contradictory concept of God where on one hand they intellectually proclaim God as all-powerful but on the other don’t believe their affirmation because they also believe evil is real and powerful.
When a person believes in evil, their faith in God is sapped.
Christian Science is the one teaching in the world that totally solves the good versus evil dilemma that the human mind so often gets caught up in. Evil is not real, it instructs. Evil is illusion of the human mind, and the human mind that believes it is illusion too.
Understanding God, and I mean TRULY understanding God, to be all-powerful good, destroys the illusion. This is accomplished by degrees in the human experience, but nonetheless happens as the pilgrim faithfully treks down the path the Master Jesus Christ has mapped out before us.
Jesus conquered all evil, including death, and we will too. And the sooner, the better.
But back to, “How close is God?”
God is never separate from our life and existence. God is the substance of every good quality, every virtue, and every moral and spiritual action we take. God IS the good we live and express, and CAN live and express. As offspring of the divine, we are God in action.
I love this definition of God from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy:
GOD. The great I AM; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence.
God is the “I,” and we are the “AM.” Now, how much closer to God can we get than that!
Happy day!

We'll be happy to help
A lady recently asked me to pray for her, and I cheerfully replied, “We’ll be happy to help out.”
She came back with, “Who is the we?”
I said, “Well, me and God, of course!”
“Oh,” she answered.
I have this strong constant conviction of going through life with God. We’re never separated. God and I are one, I know. Like water and wet, God and my true self are never separated. We coexist. God is the Doer, and I’m the doing. It’s a fun healthy relationship of which I am very content with.
So when people ask me to do something, in my strong belief that I can’t do anything by myself, I come back with, “Sure, we’ll be happy to help out.” People look at me weird sometimes not sure who the “we” is, but I know in my own mind what I’m talking about.
I’ve decided maybe I should quit referring to the plural like that, because it confuses some. So I say, “I’ll be happy to do that,” instead. But honestly, it feels very uncomfortable, because I can’t imagine how I could ever do anything without God taking the initiative first. God is the Doer, not me. I like to be the “doing” part.
But I don’t want to confuse people either. So, I’ll probably use the “I” more frequently when no other human is involved, just to keep conversation clear. But in my own view, I know there is only one “I,” and it’s not me. It’s God. But I exist too, I realize, just not as God.
If you have any questions, we’ll be happy to help! :-)

No need in God
Where is God?
And climbed the topmost steeple.
But God declared: “Go down again,
I dwell among the people.”
~ Louis Newman

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.~ Jesus Christ

Are you in need?
You cannot see Me, yet I am the light you see by.
You cannot hear Me, yet I speak through your voice.
You cannot feel Me, yet I am the power at work in your hands.
I am at work, though you do not understand My ways.
I am at work, though you do not understand My works.
I am not strange visions. I am not mysteries.
Only in absolute stillness, beyond self, can you know Me as I AM, and then but as a feeling and a faith.
Yet I am here. Yet I hear. Yet I answer.
When you need ME, I am there. Even if you deny Me, I am there.
Even when you feel most alone, I am there.
Even in your fears, I am there. Even in your pain, I am there.
I am there when you pray and when you do not pray.
I am in you, and you are in Me.
Only in your mind can you feel separate from Me, for only in your mind are the mists of "yours" and "mine".
Yet only with your mind can you know Me and experience Me.
Empty your heart of empty fears.
When you get yourself out of the way, I am there.
You can of yourself do nothing, but I can do all. And I AM in all.
Though you may not see the good, good is there, for I am there.
I am there because I have to be, because I AM.
Only in Me does the world have meaning;
only out of Me does the world take form;
only because of ME does the world go forward.
I am the law on which the movement of the stars and the growth of living cells are founded.
I am the love that is the law's fulfilling.
I am assurance. I am peace. I am oneness.
I am the law that you can live by. I am the love that you can cling to.
I am your assurance. I am your peace. I am ONE with you. I am.
Though you fail to find ME, I do not fail you.
Though your faith in Me is unsure, My faith in you never wavers, because I know you, because I love you.
Beloved, I AM there.

"Isn't this good!"
He said his friend suffered a severe stroke. Afterward, he sat in a wheelchair and was nursed. He could talk a bit but do little else.
The CPA said that whenever he visited his friend, the guy would say, “Isn’t this good, isn’t this good.” And the CPA didn’t understand how his friend could say his situation was good when the evidence looked so bad. But over a few weeks, the pal totally recovered from the stroke. A full healing wrought through Christian Science treatment.
When the guy could talk once again, the CPA asked him how he had maintained consistent good cheer and positive outlook even though the physical picture looked so dire.
The friend replied, “I’ve learned that God is a good God, and that every trial we face in life is only to bring out more of that goodness. I knew during the time I sat in that wheelchair that some very good purpose was being worked out within me. The work is finished now and I'm recovered. I am a much better man today. I had a full expectancy of healing all along.”
The CPA was all smiles and jubilation as he recounted the story. He said, after hearing the talk, he was finally understanding how his friend could keep such an upbeat attitude amidst what would be very dark times for most people. It was his faith in a good God that he had learned in Christian Science that strengthened him and gave hope…and led the way to healing.
We all can take heart in knowing that God IS good, and He’s working a positive purpose out in us too!!

Finding God
The teacher pondered for a moment, and then replied, “I’ll show you later.”
Puzzled, but obedient, the student patiently waited for an explanation.
Several days later, the two were swimming in a pond. Without any warning, the teacher grabbed the head of his student and plunged it into the water causing the young man to flail and fight for freedom in order to breathe.
The teacher refused to let go.
The student, bewildered, and rapidly growing desperate for air tried with all his might to break free of the man’s lock-grip. But to no avail. Finally, the mentor let go, and the student burst upward gasping for air.
“Why did you do that?” the student vehemently protested.
“Why did you struggle so?” the teacher replied.
“Because I wanted to breathe!” the student declared.
The teacher said, “You asked last week, ‘How do I find God?”
He continued, “Now I’ve shown you. When you struggle and fight to know God like you just fought for breath, you’ll find His presence.”

God vs. science

I’ve grown tired of reading these types of articles, which have appeared frequently in leading periodicals over recent years, because they almost always start from the same erroneous premise—that the universe is material and all logical reasoning, so the argument goes, has to start with what appears to be materially real.
This article indeed is a debate between Richard Dawkins, an Oxford professor and staunch materialist, and Francis Collins, the genome pioneer who believes in God, but holds a very materialistic view of creation. Collins tries to reason with Dawkins that a God exists, but reasoning out from matter, has little proof of God to offer other than “I believe…even though I can’t prove it in the lab.” Faith is essential to worshipping God, but sound scientific conclusions can derived too from a spiritual basis of reasoning.
I am so grateful for Christian Science when it comes to explaining the origin and substance of the universe.
For me, answering the question, “Where did the universe come from?” starts the debate correctly.
Matter is mindless. Particles, electrons, energy-fields and dirt have no intelligence. There is no mind in them. They cannot think, plan, reason or devise. They are void of mind-power.
Believing the universe evolved from a big bang, from primordial chaos, or some similar matter-theory is like believing a tornado could rip through a junkyard and produce an IBM supercomputer on the other side. It isn’t going to happen. Chaos doesn’t produce order. Mindlessness does not create mindfulness. There has to be an intelligent power behind all creation, and it cannot be material. It is spiritual!
God is Spirit, and Spirit evolves spiritual ideas.
We live in a universe of Mind where all is idea. Things are thoughts and ideas are substance. Understanding the cosmos is a matter of perspective.
Mary Baker Eddy wrote,
"To mortal mind, the universe is liquid, solid, and aeriform. Spiritually interpreted, rocks and mountains stand for solid and grand ideas." Science and Health"What is the thought behind the thing," is perhaps a more constructive question to ask when trying to understand reality.
To understand the universe, we have to reason out from Spirit.
"The true theory of the universe, including man, is not in material history but in spiritual development. Inspired thought relinquishes a material, sensual, and mortal theory of the universe, and adopts the spiritual and immortal." Science and HealthThe God-science debate will continue until humanity understands the allness of God, the infinitude of Spirit, and the might and majesty of Mind. This understanding is destined to come more fully over time for it is the truth.
Until then, I will simply continue to demonstrate the presence and power of God in my own life, and let my example speak for itself.
I look forward to the day when Time magazine has a cover feature titled, "God vs. science debate ended. God is All!"
Or perhaps, you can think of an even better title??...

Do you have time for God?
God is all good. God is all love. God is all wealth. God is all health. God is all happiness. God is all true success. If we don’t time for health, love and happiness, what do we have time for?
There is great misunderstanding in the world at large about the nature of God. Many think of God as remote to their experience, as being somewhere else in the universe not paying attention to what is going on locally. But this is a limited view of God stemming from the age-old belief of God being a man in the sky or some type of human savior that has limited ability.
God is infinite Love, an all-knowing Mind, and ever-present Spirit. We cannot think, act or exist without God. Our existence and God are one and the same. So to believe we don’t have time for God is to totally misunderstand our relationship to God.
If we’re working on a project and are on a tight deadline, every right idea we think to complete the work is coming from God. If we have a family to feed and clothe, every act of love and care for those family members is God in action through us. If we have a business to run, we can’t do it without intelligence, wisdom and insight—all God in action. We can’t do anything without God.
Now, there are some things that have nothing to do with God—like anger, hate, frustration, and discouragement. These are godless states of thought, and as we learn through experience, no joy comes from them. Eventually the suffering that results from indulging in such demoralized ways of thinking causes us to turn from them and we are more receptive to God’s ever-present help. But even when life looks dim and gray, God is there sustaining us, giving us life, perpetuating our being and ensuring we will live forever and triumph over every evil lie.
Do you have time for God? God is all you do have time for if you want to live a happy healthy life. God is all the good you pursue. God is responsible for all the success you accomplish, and all the strength, wisdom, insight and confidence that enable you to continue and prosper.
God is it. God is all there is in the big picture scheme of things. Without God we are a nothing. But we are not a nothing. We are something, and the real substance of the “something” is God at work through us.

Hanging out on a limb?
A calm, powerful voice boomed out of the sky, “Yes, there is.”
The tourist pleaded, “Can you help me? Can you help me?”
The steady voice replied, “Yes, I can.”
“What do you want me to do?” The tourist pleaded.
“Let go of the bush, and you’ll be fine.” The deep voice instructed.
There was a long tense pause. The tourist then yelled, “Is there anyone else up there?”

Where is God?
It’s a common belief, that one can be separated from God. But this is impossible, for God and man are forever united.
Look around and see how close God is to you.
Is there beauty to behold? Is there harmony to hear? Are there good deeds unnoticed? Every bit of love and every hint of beauty and harmony IS the presence of God.
Is their order anywhere to be seen? A room well swept, a drawer well organized, a schedule well planned is all proof of God in action.
Does someone care? A tender touch, a compassionate response, a kind remark, a thoughtful gesture are all the hand of God at work.
Can you think? Are there helpful ideas to consider, inspirations to act upon, or intuitions to follow? Every insight, direction, guidance and inkling to greater and grander possibilities is God’s Mind at work in you.
The more you look the more you’ll see. God is everywhere! Not in material forms that decay and disappear, but in the good ideas and qualities outward forms manifest.
How do you feel close to God? By acknowledging the good God is obviously doing already.
God is not a controlling power remote to your experience. God IS the presence and power of good and love at work within you, around you, and all about you. You couldn’t be any closer to God than you already are.
Look and see!

God is not abstract
God is easy to find if you know what to look for.
God is Love.
When a person smiles, gives a big hug, acts unselfishly, cares, notices, encourages, and supports, God is at work in the love expressed.
God is Mind.
When you get a good idea, gain insight, receive fresh perspective, become inspired, or solve a problem, God is at work in the helpful ideas revealed.
God is good.
When tensions dissolve, stress drains away, conflict recedes, or troubles disappear, God is at work bringing something better to the surface.
Some people complain they can see no good around them. I reply, “You are not looking! Break out of the cubicle of self-centeredness and look around! It’s easy to find God. God is everywhere. God is omnipresent.
The limited material sense of things doubts this spiritual reality, but the material senses never have gotten the truth right. They need to be forsaken. We need to get into a spiritual sense of things. Then we begin to see, maybe a little bitty at a time, but nonetheless, it will appear, God’s glory everywhere!!
God is not abstract and unknowable. God is here and now. You can't miss His presence if you're looking!

God is All
I grew uncomfortable.
Was it possible, or even healthy, to think about God full-time? I asked myself. There were so many other jobs that needed to be done to survive in this world.
Then it hit me.
God is All. There isn’t anything else to think about!
God is the source of all good, peace, harmony, health and well being--of everything and anything one could ever possibly need to live a happy whole life.
There is no other place to go, no other task to finish, no better way to spend time then finding the good one hopes for at its source. In God!
God is All. There is no other power or presence worth worshipping.
Think on it.

Where to find God?
“If you want to experience the warmth and surroundings of Hawaii, you have to travel to Hawaii.” I said. “You won’t find the sunny beaches and waving palm trees of Waikiki in the icy glaciers of Alaska. The two regions are entirely different environments.”
I went on to explain. “God is Spirit. God is not matter. To find God you have to mentally travel into the realm of Spirit. And to travel into the realm of Spirit, you have to leave a material sense of existence behind. You won’t find the peace and health of Spirit in a mortal body, in temporal things or circumstances. You find God in Spirit, and you access the presence of Spirit through spiritual sense.”
