I was a fugitive running for my life. Wherever I hid, a would-be killer was hot on my trail, two steps away from capturing me. Running and hiding, running and hiding, I was exhausted, I could go no further. I was ready to give up and accept the consequences. Unrelentless and heartless, the murderer pounces, raises his knife over my body preparing to stake his claim. Refusing to give in, I bolt upright, wake up, and find myself sitting in bed. The clock reads 2 a.m.
There was no murderer. There was no chase. There was no danger. It was all a dream.
But it seemed so real!
Safe in my bed, I pondered the spiritual lesson.
When a person feels pursued by some danger, for example, by fear of failure, of what others think, of the future, of disease, of debt, or of death, their worries may appear very real and justified. But from a spiritual point of view, they are not. They are but a mortal dream.
God is all. God is good. There is no room or opportunity in God’s infinite universe for evil of any kind.
Christian Science explains that every sense of evil is a mortal mind dream that eventually passes as a fleeing shadow in the night. No trail is left behind.
Christ comes to wake humans out of the dream of living in matter.
Christ is knocking on the mental door of mankind today proclaiming through the voice of Christian Science, “Wake-up! Wake-up! God is your Life. God is good. You have nothing to fear. You do not need to suffer!”
Let’s heed this voice of Truth and wake to its healing message.
Mortality is a dream. It’s not real. It’s not a threat to our Life in God, the only life we live.
Awake! Awake! Let’s not be a fugitive in a foreign land. It’s more comfortable in the realm of Spirit.

The Land of Oz
Mortality is no more real than life in the Land of Oz as depicted in the classic book, “The Wizard of Oz.”
After reading the book or seeing the movie, the characters and place of Oz take graphic form in thought. It’s easy to picture the lion, the tinman, the scarecrow, the wicked witch, and the yellow brick road. Yet, in reality, these images have no substance, no concrete form, and no reality. They are products of
imagination. Harry Potter and the Hogwarts school of Magic are contemporary examples of the same phenomenon. They do not exist. Yet, for those who read the books and see the movies, it’s easy to picture these characters and places in thought.
Mortality, too, often makes a strong impression on human thought, building up images of disease, suffering, evil and misery. When held to, these images appear real, concrete and unyielding.
Jesus Christ demonstrated that images of evil could be changed and distilled. He removed disease from people’s bodies and stilled the storm by changing thought with spiritual truth.
Mortality is not the fixed existence it appears to be. With a spiritualization of thought, mortality will lose its foothold in the human consciousness and yield to the ultimate reality of all things.
God is Spirit, and God is all. All is spiritual. In Spirit, there is no disease, no suffering, and no mortality. Life is good. Life is immortal.
The sooner we view mortality as no more real than the Land of Oz, or the Hogwarts school of Magic, the sooner we see through its illusion.
Like Dorothy waking from her dream while safe in her bed in Kansas, we too can wake from the dream of living in matter, and experience Life in Spirit.
It’s a more enjoyable place to dwell.

Life is not a dream
From a young age I’ve heard preachers and motivational speakers promise, “If you can dream it you can have it!”
How many people have pursued their dream and achieved their goal, but still felt like they didn’t “have it?” They wanted more?
I think of a man who believed he would be happy when he earned a large sum of money. He earned the income, but discovered he wanted more. He was not happy with what he had.
I think of a woman who found her “dream” husband. She got married. The hope of happiness-ever-after didn’t come true. She found a successful marriage takes work.
What’s the lesson?
If you’re going to dream, put your faith in something that will come true. Put your faith in spiritual reality, not in vain human scenarios that fail to deliver.
God is the source of all the good you could ever hope to have.
You don’t have to wait for a promotion, a spouse, a house, a divorce, a pill, or some temporal situation to materialize before you can experience happiness, health and joy to the fullest. It’s all here and now, in Mind.
Life is not a dream to be lived in the future. Its spiritual reality experienced in the present. Go for it!
