Where are you looking today?

No fears with God

Have you ever worried about tomorrow, feared for what might happen next, or felt uncertain about your future?

If so, there’s a cure for that unnecessary anxiety. The solution lies in understanding the allness and omniscience of God and one’s protection under the divine care.

God is all. God is good. God is Mind. The future, past, and presence of being under the directorship of God, is predictably harmonious and eternally good. There is no lurking danger around the corner or enemy to fear in the omnipresence of God’s infinite love.

A key to demonstrating this truth, of course, is to feel and experience God’s omnipresence. And this is totally doable when we relinquish a false sense of ego.

A mortal who believes in him or herself, and who accepts a mind apart from God, is tempted to be anxious and fearful. Why? Because he or she believes their future is up to them, dependent upon their decision-making and what they do humanly. And this can feel very daunting at times.

Jesus taught a better way. He taught his followers to trust in the one Mind for direction and guidance. The one Mind knows what’s best, and causes it to happen on our behalf.

When we consciously live in God’s universe, under the government of the one Mind, we don’t have fear of the future or of the present. Why? Because we know something good is always happening, and it is wonderful. There is no uncertainty about it. And we experience it too.

There is no chance or unknown in God’s economy. God determines His own state of affairs. God outlines His own future. God figures out His own present and makes it happen. And because God is good, there is only the possibility of good happening under the managerial capacity of the one Mind.

Even if something bad suggested it might happen, God would instantly annihilate it. If danger was lurking around the corner, God would get there first and wipe it out before you arrived. God is on the job, everywhere, at all times, and in all ways. There is absolutely nothing for you to fear, ever, when living in the realm of God.

In God, there is no danger or lurking error to bother, upset or unsettle. God is all. God is good. And God is an all-knowing, all-intelligent Mind that makes good happen without fail. Evil is illusion of the human mind that does not exist in the Mind of God.

As children of God, as the offspring of Spirit, we are blessed by this beneficence of God. We are living our eternal spiritual life now, and everything about it is designed to be good.

As we accept only one God, live under the government of the one Mind, and relinquish any false sense of ego, we feel God’s omnipresence. And we feel the certainty and calm that comes along with knowing that everything is working out for a good purpose, and that we are part of it!

The bigger picture

When you read the headlines in the US these days, you would think the most important events going on in the world are the Iraq war and the upcoming presidential primaries. These are certainly significant activities, and need to be honored and valued, especially a quick and appropriate resolution of the war. But it occurred to me recently that there is a bigger development going on in the world that we often lose sight of. And it’s a spiritualization of thought that leads people to see, eventually, that life is ever new and safe in God.

In thinking back on my early years, I was raised on a family farm where there always seemed to be some calamity or difficulty that needed to be mastered. Either a frost hit the apples, or hallow heart (a brown cavity in the middle of the spud) struck the potato crop, or interest rates were sky high, or yields were down, or the price of crops plunged. There was frequently some pressing need of the moment that seemed to eclipse everything else in life if we let it. Focus on those troubles often kept attention mesmerized in a state of despair and possibly forgetting the bigger perspective, that no matter what happened on the farm, life would go on.

And it did. Life always went on. We survived every year, every calamity, every catastrophe, and every disaster. A new year always showed up, a fresh start always presented itself, and the opportunity to prosper and succeed never left. Through often incredible patience, perseverance and persistent faith, we flourished over the long run.

When watching the news, I like to remind myself that there is more going on in the world than the news anchors report. There is always an undercurrent of Truth at work sustaining us regardless of what happens materially. Wars, political debates, and weather present challenges that we must face and resolve, but we must never lose the spiritual perspective and believe that any of these troubles are the sum total of existence. There is always a bigger picture to appreciate and remember than the material senses present.

There is a God that helps us. There is a Life that never ends. And there is a Mind that protects and saves us eternally. We are spiritual beings living a spiritual life that we never lose, no matter what mortality throws at us. There is a spiritual reality that prevails, survives and thrives forever.

I learn from this to mentally stay in divine reality so dismay over things gone awry in the temporal does not overtake my thinking and cast me into a pit of despair. Truth is always the victor, and it’s only a question of time and spiritual growth that this is proven to be true.

As was true back on the farm, there was always a fresh New Year right around the corner. Trials were left behind, and new opportunities were embraced that demonstrated the infinite renewal of Spirit.

Politicians will debate for eons to come, conflict will demand resolution, and chaos will cry out for order and peace, but through it all, Truth will prevail. Life in Spirit will continue to thrive and survive, and present endless opportunities for humanity to progress and continue growing closer to that final day when all faith in evil is left behind and the omnipresence of good and divine Love is fully accepted and experienced. Heaven!

Yesterday's problem

A reader from the US wrote in telling me that she had called a PC repair center, which happened to be in India, for help on a technical problem with her printer. During the conversation, she realized that the tech worker was a day ahead of her time-wise.

She thought, “My problem today is yesterday’s problem for her!” This realization brought a new perspective for her on why we don’t need to worry about tomorrow’s troubles for there is a solution already being worked out before we get there.

Jesus taught us to never worry about tomorrow.

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.

God, the all-knowing, all-wise, and all-providing Mind, is everywhere.

There is no place we can go, including “tomorrow,” where God has not been before us.

What we think is a trouble today, God has already solved “yesterday!” We can trust the solution to appear when we need it.

Hooray!

New Year planning

As we come upon a New Year and contemplate what lies ahead, it’s reassuring to remember that our future is not at the mercy of fate or chance. There's a law of spiritual prosperity and progress we can rely upon to guide and protect us as we advance toward worthy goals.

I like the instruction of the following poem by Ella Wheeler Cox:

The Winds of Fate

One ship drives east, another west,
With the self-same winds that blow.
‘Tis the set of the sails, and not the gales
That tells them the way to go.

Like the winds of the sea are the ways of fate,
As we voyage along through life
‘Tis the set of the soul
That decides the goal
And not the calm or the strife.

What direction are your sails set? And what winds do you expect them to catch?

Live in the now

Do you ever worry about your future? How to pay the bills, getting along with another, staying healthy, finding a date, receiving a promotion, aging, and other concerns often top the lists of people who over-worry.

I’d like to suggest there’s a better way to live than worry, worry, and worry more. We can make the most of God’s good now and banish the worry-mentality to no-more land.

What is this thing called “the future” anyway? Is there such a thing? Does anyone ever actually live “in the future?” No. It’s impossible. We always live in the now. We do not live in the future. We might think about the future, but we live in the now.

Worry about the future prevents us from making the most of today.

Yes, we need to plan for a healthy happy tomorrow. But the best way to ensure a prosperous day ahead is to make the best of the day we are in. The good we accomplish today accumulates and builds for a successful tomorrow.

If facing a lack of money, a lack of ideas, lack in love, or lack in anything essential, don’t fret over whether you’ll have it tomorrow. Find the needed supply today.

God is an ever-present help. God doesn’t give us the aid we need in the future. God gives us what we need in the now. Accept His gift now! He loves you now and provides for every need without delay.

At one point, while in my twenties, I got very worried about ever getting married. There were no prospects for marriage let alone dating on my horizon. To cure my angst, I decided to live in the now. I committed myself to expressing actively and more abundantly day by day the qualities of love I figured would constitute a healthy marriage. Three years later, when least expected, I crossed paths with the woman I would marry. She lived 1700 miles from my home, yet God brought us together in the most unexpected way. I was ready. She was ready. I had made the most of my every “now” moment, and that faithfulness took care of the future. We have been happily married for over 19 years.

Live in the now! It’s the only moment you have. Spiritually considered there is no future, just the present, and you are in it. Enjoy making the most of it.
