Swine flu

Oh mercy, headlines are filled with fear of a swine flu pandemic breaking out across the continent.

Now is not the time to watch and see what happens, but to determine what happens by metaphysically treating the population’s thought with spiritual truth that nullifies the fear and stops the flu.

Like a rock thrown into a pond sends ripples to the outer banks, our individual prayers leaven thought across North America to bring about peace and preserve health.

Your prayer makes a difference! And I know there are hundreds of prayer warriors that read this blog regularly. So, let’s jump in and help out, although you’re probably already on the job…

I find great comfort in Psalms 91, especially these two verses:

"Because thou hast made the Lord, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling." Psalm 91

I pray to see that all people dwell under the government of the one Mind, God, divine Love, whose omnipresence protects and preserves the health and well being of each man, woman and child.

I pray to see that there is no space in the omnipresence of divine Love for flu to circulate or even exist. Love is all. Good is all. God is all.

I have confidence that when we take refuge in the truth that God, good is all, our mental/spiritual position dissolves fears on behalf of all mankind, removes cause for concern, and demonstrates that there is no reason for concern. Any evidence of swine flu disappears.

The spirituality of each individual is their protection from any belief of materiality, whether called swine flu, cold, or some other belief of contagion.

No one is a vulnerable mortal, but a forever protected immortal.

It can all stop now.

Amen.

Thank you so much for your helpful thoughts about how to pray. I woke up very early this morning and was going to watch the news but thought it will all be about swine flu so decided to pray instead. What came to me was "...the swinish element in human nature uproots it." That is part of a sentence in Scient & Health by Mary Baker Eddy. On the same page she talks about the qualities of thought needed to keep that element from controlling our thinking by "being honest, unselfish, loving and meek". Other qualities mentioned on that page are "spirituaization of thought and Christianization of daily life...." Another good word to research from that same book is "nature". On p. 507 we are told "Creation is ever appearing and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source". We are God's creation; He the only source and all that He creates is good. Our nature is Godlike and we cannot be subject to thoughts of fear about anything that does not originate from God, the only Mind.

Some great ideas. Thanks for sharing!

Only healthy impressions can spread through the Mind of God which we all reflect.

Hey Evan,
I wondered if you had any thoughts about this article on the Swine Flu that was in the Monitor today: http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0428/p02s04-usgn.html
I guess it is right for them to report what officials are doing, but it kind of sounds like they're expecting that it will be medical efforts that will turn the tide in this thing. Is there a more Christianly Scientific way for me to read this?

Thanks Evan, yes, we can all get to work. Have been remembering that it's "In atmosphere of Love divine, We live, and move, and breathe;" freely, healthfully (from the C.S. Hymnal). And also, "the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death." (8th chapter of Romans). Slowly, bit by bit am learning that material life will always be fraught with these scare tactics and travesties, because it can't help itself. But, we don't live there. We live in Spirit and something I just read reminded me that every prayer ripples out to make this truth manifest as the reality it actually is, destroying the lies of matter.

I was wondering the same thing about the Monitor article mentioned above. It was disturbing to read in this paper. I mean, it didn't raise my thought at all, and seems to point to matter and "early detection". I guess the Monitor has to conform to this world to keep readers.

The religious article in today's Monitor does provide a strong and definite counter to the medical model, however. It's called "Freedom from swine flu through God's care," and it's at http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/0428/p18s01-hfcs.html

This may help others. It's relatively new to me but maybe old to others. Things began to change quite favorably and effectively for me when I prayed the heartfelt conclusions I reached through study of the Bible and Science and Health, rather than just the specific passages. Though true, things in S&H didn't seem to be of much effect in my prayer until they first resonated deeply within me. Kind of like the old days, when TVs with tubes had to warm up first before you saw the clear picture.

I no longer see people (myself included) as bags of mobile matter that 'flu bugs' use to hop from here to there, in the attempt to progress geometrically. Sick people are just sick, for no reason, and need compassion and divine Love.

That will help to first cut the legs off the flu pandemic. Then when all that's left is the 'flu bug' that huffs and puffs but can't go nowhere, a simple 'Now go away' will remove that little bit of residue.

Nonetheless, one passage does stick out: Christian Science acts as an alterative to the entire system... Written in the context of the entire system of one's body, it's also an alterative to the entire belief system of contagion and pandemic, or whatever.

I have enjoyed praying with these thoughts, confident that as we pray we are taking refuge "that God, good is all" and this dissolves fear, nullifies concern, and alleviates the inevitability of spread of fear and ill health.

Remember when the typhoon hit the Far East a few years ago. Was it Sri Lanka? The government wouldn't allow foreign aid workers to distribute food, medicine or aid? The UN was predicting an explosion of disease. A friend of mine urged me to join her in challenging the inevitability that disease would result. For a moment, that seemed futile, but I knew that I was obliged by Jesus to pray. Interestingly, a news report came out a week later that health officials were puzzled, but the widespread disease never materialized. Jesus did not see disease. He saw God's perfect children, whole, well, Godlike. And, this stand for Truth healed.

God is our refuge - pandemic is not inevitable. As you said, the omnipresence of God, the government of good, protects and preserves the health of each man, woman and child.
